Description

🌱 Ambulia (Limnophila sessiliflora) – Small

Overview:
Often referred to simply as Ambulia, this is one of the most popular fine-leaved aquatic plants in aquariums. The small-leaved form (Limnophila sessiliflora var. small) is especially favored for its delicate, feathery appearance and fast growth. Native to Southeast Asia, it thrives in various conditions and is a great beginner-friendly option.

Appearance:

  • Bright green, finely divided leaves arranged in whorls around the stem.

  • The small-leaved variety has shorter, denser whorls than the standard form, giving it a bushier look.

  • Can grow 20–40 cm tall, making it suitable for the midground or background of aquariums.

Plant Type:
Soft stem plant

Water Parameters:

  • 🌡️ Temperature: 22–28 °C

  • 💧 pH: 6.0–7.5

  • ⚖️ Hardness: Soft to moderately hard water

Lighting & CO₂ Needs:

  • Grows in moderate to high light; brighter light gives more compact, lush growth.

  • CO₂ supplementation is recommended for the best results but not strictly required.

  • Benefits from regular nutrient dosing (especially iron and micronutrients).

Growth & Care:

  • Fast-growing, requires frequent trimming.

  • Very easy to propagate—cut tops and replant into the substrate.

  • Can form dense, bushy clusters that look stunning in aquascapes.

Benefits in Aquariums:
✔️ Beginner-friendly, hardy plant
✔️ Fast growth helps control algae
✔️ Provides shelter for fry and small fish
✔️ Creates a soft, “fern-like” texture that contrasts beautifully with broad-leaf plants
